What a residential irrigation system includes
To better educated consumers, we have included brief descriptions of the Rain Bird products installed by Tactical Irrigation.

Controller

The Controller is the device that runs your irrigation system. It functions as your system's "brain", telling each zone (a specific part of your lawn) when to turn on and how long to water for. The controller allows you to program customized watering cycles to meet the needs of the plants on that zone. For instance, a larger turf zone like a backyard will have a longer watering time than a smaller garden zone. All Tactical Irrigation systems are equipped with a controller which is typically mounted in the customer's garage or basement.

Electric Valves

Valves are the part of an irrigation system that controls the flow of water to a particular zone. When the controller activates a particular zone, an electric signal is sent to the valve which then releases water to all of the sprinkler heads on that zone. There is one valve for each zone on a system.

Rain Sensor

To prevent unnecessary watering, Tactical Irrigation installs a rain sensor on all irrigation systems. The adjustable rain sensor stops the system from running when the designated percipitation level has been met. A sensor is an important tool for conserving water.

Heads

Irrigation heads are the devices that apply water to your lawn. There are two kinds of heads: rotary and spray.

Spray - Spray heads, which have no moving parts, distribute an adjustable (0 - 360 degree) "mist" of water to a contained area. Spray heads are commonly found in smaller areas such as boulevards, gardens and around swimming pools.

Rotary - Rotary heads are found in larger turf areas like front and backyards. Unlike older impact sprinklers heads, Rain Bird's rotary heads are completely silent and operate on patented mechanism. Adjustable from a 40 to 360 degree arc, Rainbird turf heads are highly versatile and come in many styles. For residential purposes, Tactical Irrigation commonly uses the Rainbird 3500 Series Rotor and the Rainbird 5000 Series Rotor.
